Rapeseed is one of the most important oilseed crops in the modern world, playing a significant role in agriculture, the food industry, and technical production. It is grown in many countries, including Ukraine. For us, this agricultural crop is a significant stimulus for the development of various sectors of the economy and export.
The Glendeal marketplace was created specifically to help producers sell their products and successfully continue their operations.

What is Rapeseed
Many consumers today use a food product such as rapeseed oil. Yet, even now, few people know about the crop from which it is produced. Meanwhile, understanding what rapeseed is and the wide range of applications it has from the food industry to green energy — is of great importance.
Rapeseed is an annual plant of the cabbage family, also known as canola (in certain regions/varieties). Its seeds contain 40-45% oil and about 20% protein, which makes the crop extremely valuable for the production of food products, animal husbandry, and industry. Today, rapeseed is one of the crops that combine food, technical, and energy significance.
Biological Features of Rapeseed
To better understand what rapeseed is, it is worth considering its botanical characteristics. The crop is grown in two main forms: winter and spring. Both varieties are well adapted to the climatic conditions of Europe and Ukraine, ensuring stable harvests.
Probably, many of us have seen rapeseed bloom but did not know what it was. Rapeseed flowers have a bright yellow color that can be seen in the fields in spring and early summer.
Such landscapes not only decorate the countryside but also have practical significance, playing an important role in beekeeping, as rapeseed is an excellent honey-bearing crop. In addition, due to its composition, rapeseed is a valuable source of unsaturated fats and acids, which are important for a healthy diet.

The Use of Rapeseed: Food, Technical, and Energy Sectors
When it comes to what is made from rapeseed, it should be noted that its application is extremely broad. The main directions for using the crop can be divided into several groups.
Food Industry
Repack is widely used in the production of grub products. Zokrema, yogo vikorist in such processes:
- production of olive oil with a high level of unsaturated fats and acids, which positively affects the cardiovascular system;
- vikoristan for distillation of margarine and confectionery industry.
The same repak is available in food products such as dzherelo and rosemary.
Animal Husbandry
The crop is also valuable for feeding livestock. The oil cake and meal that remain after rapeseed processing are used as feed additives. This helps to provide livestock with a high level of protein, which contributes to increased productivity.
Technical Sector
Rapeseed is also applied in the technical sector. It is used for the production of biodiesel as an alternative to fossil fuels, as well as technical oils and lubricants. The use of rapeseed by enterprises is a significant contribution to the development of renewable energy sources and green energy. Thus, rapeseed is a versatile crop that is successfully used in various fields of human activity.
Economic Significance and Prospects for Rapeseed Use
For Ukraine in particular and Europe in general, rapeseed is not just an oilseed crop. Its cultivation, processing, and application are important components of economic development. Today, rapeseed is among the leading crops in terms of export level, as global demand for the plant itself and its processed products is growing.
Ukraine is one of the leaders in rapeseed cultivation, ensuring stable supplies of oil and biodiesel to foreign markets. This makes the crop an important economic source and support for the agricultural sector.
The high level of rapeseed production helps not only to satisfy the country’s domestic needs but also to strengthen its position in the international market. Combined with the development of cultivation technologies and modern processing methods, rapeseed has the potential for even greater integration into global supply chains.
So, rapeseed is a powerful source of vegetable raw materials that has strategic importance for the food industry, animal husbandry, and green energy. Its value lies in its high content of protein and unsaturated fats, the versatility of its application, and its great economic potential. And considering the rising role of renewable energy sources, rapeseed can become a key element in the transition to a more environmentally sustainable future.
